It's for fixing guide prices that are different from what people are ACTUALLY TRADING AT. (Which wouldn't be an issue if they updated daily (or more often than daily) at more than an insignificant 5% per day.)

i agree with people saying they want the old prices, i really miss people picking prices and no guiide, i do appreciate the new trade system though where you have to check again and again to make sure its the right deal. so well done jagex, but that means if we make a mistake it will be our fault now. so if people complain well its OUR FAULT. so i believe the market guide should go away for good.

Expected Price: 30-40gp, just over a 1/10th of the pouch price.
Reason for expected price:
I tried to buy some last night it took a good 30 minutes at 500gp each. At the moment there is no incentive to make them as you make a loss! obviosuly this mean very limited supply for an item which is quite useful. At 30-40gp it would enable people to make a profit, however so slight, which would mean a nice supply for people needing them.

Item: Calquat tree seed
Current Price: 17k
Expected Price: 45-60k
Reason for expected price: training farming with trees should be more expensive as it is with the Calquat tree. 17k costs for 12k xp with ONE tree is just to cheap. take a look at the magic and yew tree, they're both more than 10 gp/xp, and the seeds arn't harder to get.

^So basically, you think all farming methods should be expensive? Calquat seeds provide a good alternative to regular tree seeds for people who don't have a lot of money. I see no problem with the price.
