The Time Conversion Thread

Official UK / Jagex / Forum Time is:

The Time Conversion Thread

Welcome to the "Time Conversion Thread", kindly brought to you by Laurencio2. Here you will find all the information you need to help you get to the right place at the right time, no matter where you are in the world!

Please remember that Jagex is based in the United Kingdom and, as such, we use Greenwich Mean Time or British Summer Time (depending on what time of the year it is!).

Have fun! :D :) :D

♥ Many thanks to Laurencio2 for maintaining this sticky. ♥

2. Introduction
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
. Hi all and welcome to The Time Conversion Thread! :D This thread has been created to assist everyone in converting times from any place, to any place, with as little confusion as possible over what timezone someone is in, and whether that person's timezone has changed. Previously, the only conversions available to us was a simple chart showing GMT offsets of a few cities around the world. This, didn't show differences in different countries, and also did not take into account Daylight Savings. This caused the vast majority of RuneScape players to convert times up to approximately two hours out from the time it should have been.

. I have been converting times for people for approximately two years now, so have a lot of experience in knowing where to find the right information, so the information found here *should* be correct. I have collected the data for this thread in early December 2008, so there might be some slight timezone changes closer to timezone-change dates, however I cannot account for these unforseen changes. I will not be updating this thread again until late 2009 or early 2010 as I will no longer be a member as of early January 2009. If you have any questions regarding timezone conversions, you should contact Aljosa2004 on his thread at 14-15-108-58210227. Aljosa has been converting timezones for a similar amount of time as me, and we both have our strengths and weaknesses ;) (c)

. Within this thread, you will be able to find Daylight Savings schedules, recommended times for events and GMT offsets included in multiple conversion charts which you can use and fill in to give people time conversions for your own thread. I hope that this thread will be of use to everyone for 2009 and the beginning of 2010, and that there will be no more incorrect time conversions :)

3. Important Information
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
. One of the most common mistakes people make when converting timezones, is assuming the meaning of GMT. GMT, or Greenwich Mean Time, is a time which does NOT change throughout the year to accomodate for any daylight savings changes. Greenwich is a place in London, where all timezones are measured from, as well as lines of Longitude. During the UK Summer (and parts of Spring and Autumn), the UK use BST or British Summer Time, which is GMT+1. Often on the Runescape forums, I've noticed people refer to BST as GMT, causing many conversions to be wrong. This thread will use the *real* GMT as a base for all conversions, as it is easier. Please make sure that you remember that UK Time and GMT are different for half of the year ;)

. This is The Time Conversion Thread version 2.0.0.
. This thread was last updated on Monday the 5th of January, 2009. Information in this thread is correct as of 10th December 2008. Information can be used up until 31st January 2010.

. The time on the Runescape Forums from 1st January 2009 until 1AM GMT 29th March 2009 is GMT.
. The time on the Runescape Forums from 1AM GMT 29th March 2009 until 1AM GMT 25th October 2009 is BST (GMT+1).
. The time on the Runescape Forums from 1AM GMT 25th October 2009 until 1AM GMT 28th March 2010 is GMT.

. You can check the current time on the Runescape forums by clicking the "Runescape Forums" link next to Location > Home, and then scroll down to a busy forum like General and check the time-stamp of the last post. The time is after the date. This time may be a few minutes old depending on when the last time someone posted in the forum was.

. And the final important piece of information is a few reminders:
. 00:00 or 12:00AM is Midnight.
. 12:00 or 12:00PM is Midday.
. Make sure you use the correct conversion chart for a given time of year, more information in post 21on page 3.

EXTRA IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Please see the top of page 29 for an announcement on me :)

From now until I come back (see page 29), Great One60 will be taking questions. Great One60 has been a great friend of mine for a long time, and knows timezones very well. I trust that she will be able to answer any questions you give her. A big thankyou to Great One60 for doing this for me :D
