Hi all,

We've recently put up a sticky thread containing information about the 'merchanting clans' that have become very common over the past few months.

You can find the thread here:

Location: Home > RuneScape Forums > Game Feedback > Merchanting Clans and you

This thread is for you to discuss the information and advice contained in the sticky thread.

We'll keep an eye on the discussion here on this thread. We've thought it through pretty carefully at this end, but if it seems that any tweaks might be necessary then we'll consider updating the informational sticky.

Thanks,

-JH

I didn't forget, but the forums went down for a minute to apply the Mobilising Armies reskin while I was making the edit. It's there now. :D

merchant clans are getting the blame for a lot of price rises lately but they cant be responsable for them all.

i had some junk items on the ge for the lowest price they were rune darts (p) and addy bolts p++ neither of them would sell for the lowest price so im guessing no one was buying them for the highest price either yet each and every day i would log into runescape and see that tho they had not sold there price had gone up.
cos of this im not convinced clans are as responsable for the price rises they are made out to be

Hopefully this stops all the noobs whining about merch clans. Even though they sometimes mess up the economy they aren't against the rules because your joining at your own risk.

Comrade Mod Jon H, we are pleased that you have decided to follow some of our advice. In particular we would like you to empthasise our advice that the use of autotypers is a bannable offence. In addition we would like to see reports issued against autotypers acted upon immediately/efficently.

On behalf of the working class of Runescape, we thank you.

The Grand Exchange is meant to empower players to buy the items they need when they need them. Likewise, if players have made or obtained something that they don't need, the Grand Exchange can help them sell it to someone who does need it.
_______

Yes, but when merchant clans are allowed, the "convenience" of the G/E is ruined. I can't get a dharok's platebody, or a verac's skirt because a clan of people are buying them out just to dump them early on. And when I can ACTUALLY buy that item, it's for a substantially higher price.

Being a top leader or at least ranked in a merchant clan should be considered an unfair advantage.

Leaders know ahead of time and can start up a stockpile of the item before the rest of the clan even is told of what this item will be. Does the average player have a clan of 100 followers to get the price of a stockpiled item they have to go up for them? I would say no....

What risk is there for those who lead these clans? They buy an item, tell their flock to buy it out after they have what they need. Merchanting is SUPPOSED to take risk.

I'm risking a portion of my bank currently, I have a good amount of faith on my investment though and have had to spend the better part of 3 weeks managing where the price of this item has been going or where it will go. Merchant clans don't have to take careful steps, they just put an item in, sell when they got the profit they needed.
