Hello everyone!

As announced in the news post here, we are holding a series of question and answer sessions on some major aspects of Jagex. The first one is with Jagex CEO Mark Gerhard, also known as Mod MMG, and you can see his answers to questions asked earlier this week here.

If you would like to ask Mod MMG a question, please go here and he will answer your question on this thread.

Update:

Hey guys,

Just so that everyone can get the opportunity to ask a question, and so that my answers don't get lost ;), I'm going to make a new thread so that you can keep asking your questions. I will keep answering the questions here so that you can see them. I'll update the first post with the question thread.

Mark

Thanks for having this Live Q&A. :)

In the interview with MMOHub you mentioned that you will put "magic effects" into RuneScape like particle effects and specula lighting. Can you tell us something more about that? I don't quite understand what it means for the graphics in RuneScape. And will we see this coming this year?

Another question about those "magic effects" is that I'd like to know when we see those fantastic looking lighting effects from the Abyssal Whip and Zanaris concept art, actually ingame?

Hi, This question never gets answered and I think people would like to know, what are you or are you doing anything about the luck factor in this game?

Some players when created are more lucky then other though out the game.

For obvious reasons this is unfair to many of the unlucky players in the game, it's very tedious and annoying to find that a drop you have been working for — for weeks hasn't dropped yet, but some other person comes along spends 30 minutes doing what you have been doing for weeks and gets a drop.

This has happened many times and it kills a lot of motivation.

I noticed no questions were answered about mechscape. So do you plan to release the beta before the end of 2009?

Thanks a bunch :)

My question for you is about "Particle Physics". How are you going to implement them into the game (if you are), for better animations/graphics pertaining to lighting, magic spells, glowing effects, etc? Will we see this in an animation pack coming in the near future?

Also, a lot of people have been discussing day/night, and the graphics seen in Runehq's concept art by Jagex. The detailing on the house is much better than before - will we see day/night released with an upgrade to compatibility with direct x (which will allow for better graphics, without sacrificing players ability to play with these graphics), and possibly some graphic reworks to give a few more places much more life, and detail?

Hi MMG. I got a question. When is the anti-hijacking-key ready for use? Is it a lot of work or are you nearly done with it?

Okay I have several questions, these being of upmost important to high rankers.

1) A few months ago Mod Mmg stated that RuneScape would be upgrading from 32-bit java to 64-bit java, which will, among other things, allow the maximum number RuneScape can handle(2.147b) to increase. This will of course raise the Maximum GP possible. Andrew has also stated that 200m Xp cannot be increased at the moment because it goes up by increments of 0.1xp, hence making the "hidden" maximum to be 214.7m Xp. Well, if the maximum number will increase and allow Max Gp to increase, can Jagex also make the Max Xp increase as well when you switch to 64-bit java? The hiscores are becoming quite filled, with several skills like Cooking and Fletching being impossible to obtain Top Page anymore. Raising the maximum will allow for more competition, and a chance for newer players to attempt to go after a rank they couldn't have taken in the past because of players having a lead by years or already having been maxed. 500m or even 1bil xp would make a much better Maximum Xp in my opinion, allowing for it to be so high that it allows room for real ranking and not just everybody aiming for the maximum xp as many do these days.

2) If you do raise the Maximum Xp possible, perhaps you should also consider making levels go past 99 to compensate and give high Xp players a bit more of a reward.

3) Speaking of rewards, can Jagex make a special reward for those who get 100m Xp+ or even 200m Xp? Since most players in the game don't go for such high Xp, it would have to be something small and quick to make since Jagex likes to focus on the large community. A slight change to a skillcape that you get the Xp in might be perfect. Perhaps a special trim color around it?

Thank you for taking these ideas into consideration.

P.S. I'm getting 200m xp in Agility in late October and hosting a massive party. It would be nice if a Jmod would come. Speak with Wyvernrider4 for details.

On the new Q&A Dev Blog posted today, I saw that you are working on RSC 'Cheat Servers' and I have heard in the past from a J Mod (not sure which, sorry) that people who can still play RSC (me being one of them, although not frequently) will be getting some form of item in the main RuneScape game that shows the fact they still can play RSC.

My question is will current RSC players still be getting these items, and will our current servers remain or will they all be cheat servers from then on.

Thanks
